STREET LUGE

This sleek and silent, sort of, vehicle was constructed for the sole purpose of breaking the Guinness Book of World Records in downhill skateboarding and street luge. The existing Guinness record was held by Tom Mason at 130.81 km/hr (81.28 mph) since 1998. It took a major change in design in order to move this record forward. The aerodynamics of a Streetluge had hardly been explored. The body fairing system made a huge improvement to the top-end performance and the parachute in the tail-cone made the bottom-end a little less scary! It broke the old record in test runs, going 132 kilometers per hour on a twisting mountain racetrack in Teutonia, Brazil in 2007.
Ross Baradoy broke the existing Street Luge World Speed Record in practice runs but the timer couldn’t produce accurate results for all participants and the Guinness book record attempt was promptly canceled. The fastest speed on a street luge is 157.41 kmh (97.81 mph) and was achieved by Cédric Touchette (Canada) in Les Eboulements, Quebec, Canada, on 29 September 2008. This record attempt unlike Teutonia was a private Red Bull event and was not open to the public. Kevan and Ross haven’t given up on breaking the record and all that is required now is a crazy road to set a new record.
