METAL & STONE

From the high realism of scientifically-accurate models to the beautifully whimsical artistic expression commissioned by corporations and individuals, Kevan can create the artistic display that suits your project.

Kevan: "When I think of all the forms of self-expression I indulge in, metal sculpture tops my list of favorites. As a preschooler my favorite toy was a lump of plasticine that could transform into a dozen different toys a day. Then I discovered that a bent-up piece of coat-hanger wire used as an armature inside a toy could extend it's life almost indefinitely. Soon I was using metal frameworks under paper-mache, cardboard and aluminum foil creations, winning prizes, awards and even cash in elementary school! As soon as I learned how to weld, I was sculpting metal. Even the simplest welding exercises were transformed into curious objects of art. I produced a series of metal animals, birds of prey and horses mainly, which became popular with oil company executives. This led me into the world of corporate art commissions and I soon had 11 major pieces of sculpture on downtown streets, in reception lobbies and in city parks. Over the years I have come to understand that several of them are considered to be Calgary's favorite sculptures

Although my time must often be rationed between several fields of interest, I will generally drop everything when I get a call requesting metal sculpture. Even small commissions are irresistible. In fact, I sometimes sculpt metal simply for the love of working with the stuff!"

From abstract miniscule people only inches tall, wonderfully useful for displaying frames and art, to the life-size 'Reclining Woman' whose table-propping hand can also hold a real hardcover book of your choice, Kevan can craft practically whatever you can imagine!
